Detroit's own Orbitsuns, outlaw country from the depths of Motor City, are a band custom built for saturday night bars and booze fueled summer festival nights. Coming over like a bunch of rebels without a home to go to, they'll breeze into town, all attitude and energy, and give their all to blast the cobwebs off our humdrum lives.
Fronted by Vinnie Dombroski, all the guys in Orbitsuns have played with a host of other bands but this band seems to have been steadily gathering momentum over the last decade to make this the focus of their energies. Plenty of gigging and a value for money commitment to giving their all keeps the punters wanting more. A thunderous and energetic rhythm section from Bob Hecker and Jimmy Paluzzi underpin Vinnie's baritone honky tonk singing - he sings a lot of rock music too, but here he gives Dale Watson a run for his money - and Sir Tim Duvalier provides loads of country guitar and mandolin sounds to put the cow into this cow-punk outfit. On record there's some fiddle and organ sounds in there, too, but as far as I can make out, they tour as a four-piece.
It's all a bit full-on bombastic for listening politely at home, but, hell, it's not made for that. This is just the calling card so you'll turn up and enjoy them live, let your hair down, shout yourself hoarse and dance yourself stupid. 'Die With My Boots On' and 'First Drink of the Day' both give a flavour of what this band's about - well, the titles alone do that, but the cheerfully self -mythologising outlaw perspective is right there in the music, too. For my money, though, 'Booze Hound' is the most fun, revved up rockabillythat'll induce you to shake everything you've got, whilst 'Who You Lokin Pretty For Today?' is as close as they get to more reflective, delicate music, with some nice Spanish guitar from the guitar man. The Orbitsuns are heading to the UK for a few gigs this summer. Could be a blast.
