[The Medicine Show]

You can never be totally sure of an artists prowess until you see them in a few live scenarios. I was recently witness to up and coming Scottish artist Adriana tackle the full independent musicians gambit, a high pressure album launch rock show, an acoustic house concert to a room full of strangers, and listening room coffee shop and video-cast, a radio show and a pub gig in the Highlands to mainly foreign tourists.

Sure the new album from Adriana Spina is beautifully produced, thoughtfully instrumented, and undeniably features fine performances by her and her band. In addition it includes cameos from some of Scotland's finest, including Capercaillie's Donald Shaw, The Pearl Fisher's, Davey Scott and ace harmonica player Fraser Spears (credits to numerous to mention), but until your part of the audience and the artist is in full flow, you can not be sure if they are indeed in their natural environment performing, or are using production wizardry to create their environment in the studio, I'm pleased to report its the former, Adriana is a Natural!!

 

It was a real privilege to be part of this adventure for Adriana, over 4 days she played, 4 very different venues and a radio session, 5 very different performances, it says a lot that she mastered and conquered them all with and easy good humour and really concetion with those diverse audiences (even after getting the radio session off to a grinding halt by being unceremoniously dumped to the floor by an unruly and equally unstable studio chair live on air)

Ive compiled this short video, in the hope it conveys some of the range of the performances and some of the consummate and easy skill of her performance levels, at the onset please accept my apologies for the poor quality of the sound recording of the launch, the sound at the gig was banging but over powered my over sensitive one setting hand held camera. I hope it doesn't detract overmuch from enjoying this document.
