The Belladrum Festival Tartan Heart Fringe the best 2 weeks to be in the Highland

The Belladrum Tartan Heart Fringe is the best two weeks to tour the The Highlands  if your a musician or music fan. It takes place last week of July first week of August in traditional Highland village halls, and traditional Highland hostelries as well as a less traditional bar bee q,  a house concert in a Light House, even a concert in a tree house, (left) a more traditional Highland Games dance (what could be more traditional than that) but on the other hand walk on the wild side with a tea dance and concerts in a Tea Room, there is even even a Charity Show in a Charity Shop. All in the most beautiful surroundings possible, culminating in 3 days of music on 10 stages, at the wonderful and equally eccentric Belladrum Festival, where the fringe has our own stage, The Square Wheels Cycles Potting Shed Stage.

This year The Potting Shed Stage is  dedicated to the memory, music and social legacy of Woody Guthrie, in his centennial year, the singing of his songs will be  encouraged where ever possible. The fringe has a  distinctive Texas Fried Flavour with the return of Texas Tim Scott and the first appearance of The O's,  and an equally strong local Highland presence (particular Ross-shire), and particularly with Martin Stephenson's Barbaraville Records recording artist Ally Macleod introducing  Red Hook Rapids and Martin himself introduce his latest discovery Rockabilly dynamite in the person of  MIR (featuring Martin on guitar) Invergordon's Defcon One and Davy Cowan also flying the flag. Look out for Leah from south of the border down Nairn way, one of the best Blues voice to come out for Scotland in many years (and proudly comes from my home town) , Isaac Sutherland the power house guitarist from the Northland's, teams up with the delicate guitar stylings of Bute Guitar Festival open mic winner Hamish Roberts and aye up! there is  a Yorkshire tribute to the late great Ronnie Lane in the person of Des Horsfall's Kuschty Rye + 3 great bands from The Highland capital Dorec a belle, Blue Belly, and The Highland Hot Clubplaying both the fringe and The Potting Shed Stage.

Some exclusively play the Fringe alone like Canada's award winning Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm

Boys , and the critically acclaimed Viper Central who respectively hold up the Fringes tradition of inviting string bands from the new world to make that pilgrimage pilgrimage back to the place of the roots of their music. Talking of which there is a wild west festival on a farm with western style barn dances, western re-enactments American cars and both kinds of music, Country and Western. And the great American musical art form  is fully explored  at The Fringe Blue Note Nite with Highlands finest exponents of Jazz featured in cabaret style .  Of coarse their is traditional sessions and ceilidh music in the person of BlackRock Ceilidh,  Mainline North and Bruce Macgregor, who hosted The Wild West Fest and is fiddler in residence on the Potting Shed Stage.ome bands and artists play only the fringe and won't appear at Belladrum,

Truly something for every one on every day offering an ever changing  dramatic musical landscape to match the dramatic musical landscape of The Highlands of Scotland .
