JENNY O. —HOME (Manimal Vinyl Records)
Oh, boy hasn’t this girl talent. Admittedly, after being blown away by the sublime ‘Well Ok Honey’ the remaining four songs from the EP don’t quite match it (then what could?) but talent she most certainly has. I can’t wait to see her perform when she is over later this month (July); for one, Gateshead’s SummerTyne Americana Festival (she shares a show with Lera Lynn and Amy Speace) has the honour of having the LA-based act perform. Watch out for other dates round the UK.
Jenny’s quirky pop fashioned music has a joyful feel most others don’t, plus in her having come through a youth playing classical and jazz prior to the Long Island, New York born taking up singing in classic pop cover bands and graduating from the songwriting and recording program at Purchase conservatory of Music she is able to hold down most styles.
After a play or two not only had ‘Well Ok Honey’ (there is a great video out of the song) captured my imagination but the wonderful, acoustic guitar plied ‘Won’t Let you Leave’ —like the former it has a wonderful addictive feel due to the seamless rhythm and tasty harmony vocals. The combination of innocence and knowing coupled with, beguiling artistry also have Jenny creep into one’s senses on the tracks ‘I Do I Do’ and ‘Home’ (that isn’t the only occasion she favours piano accompaniment as she tells her tale of love). I anticipate the full-length album due own soon will help catapult Jenny’s leap to stardom. She already has already featured on the Buddy Holly tribute Rave On (Concord) via her version of ‘I'm Gonna Love You Too’ and a ton of activity on the Web!
