Budding artist Country singer-songwriter Jade Helliwell after much knocking on doors her career gained another big break earlier this year. For in winning The Yamaha Hoedown Road To C2C competition she was asked to perform at London’s prestigious Country 2 Country Festival at the O2.
Mixing pop with country Helliwell impressed me with her good clear sharp sound, and quality of material. “I Have A Good Life” ignites the EP as she speaks of having her friends and family all around her for support. More like it is needed if she is going to make it. On slowing it down she makes every lyric count on “Ask Me To Stay“, as every ounce of hurt and regret is underlined. On the song Helliwell offers, in impassioned tones an explanation of what the lady in the song was looking for, and it wasn’t the world!
On the other side she is found looking for a drink to help her “Forget The Night”; and with it heaped in lilting melody and claver hooks it underlines the fact Jade Helliwell has much natural talent. “Never Loved Another” closes the release in relaxed fashion as she puts away a mainstream entrenched number that speaks of how her partner will never love another like he loves her.
With a great deal of competition out there, even on the UK circuit any young act coming through needs to follow their heart. Try to be better at what they do every time they walk out on stage or write a song, and from what I have heard she is more than capable of gaining a greater inroad into the market.
