When I got this album I must admit to mentally shelving it, for a start I had no idea who E.C. Ball was and the track listing pointed towards a gospel collection – which has never been near the top of my listening, but I’d also made myself a promise to listen to as much of the music I get sent as possible so I filed it in pending. A few weeks down the line I took to reading the “one sheet” for the album and the first thing I noticed was a number of Americana luminaries had contributed to the record, including Jon Langford, Handsome Family, Jolie Holland and Bonnie “Prince” Billy, so I removed the virtual wrapper and gave it go and was pleasantly surprised by this tribute collection.
The subject of the tribute E.C. Ball from Rugby Virginia along with his wife Orna made sang ballads, comic songs, and mountain gospel music on records and the radio, for their full story, track listing and genesis of the album check our this great article here.
