A unique double bill, these great musicians met at Belladrum Festival here in The Highlands a few years back, their paths crossed again at The Medicine Show Monday Night Strathpeffer Coffee Shop Sessions for what was be a wonderful night of music.
Drew Nelson, is a Medicine Show Stalwart, his Dust Road To Beulah Land was my favourite album of 2009 and a great many other people too I suspect, and has seen him grow to a major force for good in roots music , whether its campaigning for land rights for his native people of Michigan, or high lighting the plight of the working poor in his songs, they have taken him beyond the threshold of widespread acclaim, with a headline slot on The Barn Stage at Maverick Festival this year and guest appearance at Leadenhall Festival (OK so he was my guest at Leaden Hall, but he still slayed it) now a regular visitor to Europe.
Dave Sharp was a founder member and guitarist of seminal Welsh Rockers The Alarm, on their demise Dave took off in search of his musical roots, hard traveling across America, finally settling in New Orleans and perfecting his craft playing on Bourbon Street, simply one of the best guitarist and songwriters alive.
Apart from all of that two of my favourite people on the planet.
Here's Dave opening up the proceedings
And Drew with a new song, then he gets into lady's shoes, mix's up his set list, then takes us for a familiar "Waltz Across Texas"
Dave and Drew join forces to pay tribute to a musical hero, and relax after, well as relaxed as you can get with me sticking a camera in their faces
Here's a video I did, of Drews song "Prayers In A Tree" that was inspired by The Cloutie Well an ancient wishing well on The Black Isle a few miles from here. I took Drew there on his last visit, a year later he's got this song from it.
