THE O’S –WE ARE THE O’s (Idol Records)

THE O’S –WE ARE THE O’s (Idol Records)

www.wearetheos

Understated and a little off-kilter Taylor Young and John Pedigo play a list of instruments between them as The O’s utilise traditional folk country in a good honest fashion.

On first listen their music for me doesn’t pull up any trees maybe it was because I feel I had heard it all before. As the likes of the Bad Livers and other string-based units Highwood… Continue

Universal http://www.johnfogerty.com/

John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Rival Fame and a recording act in his own right (his solo debut in 1973 was recorded under the guise as The Blue Ridge Ranger where he played all the instruments) is one of the few people who could get away with making an album like this and also make it work. Since many songs on this… Continue

THE MOJO GURUS —LET’S GET LIT WITH...(Linus Entertainment)

THE MOJO GURUS —LET’S GET LIT WITH...(Linus Entertainment)www.mojogurus.com

Hard rocking fare that owes more to the 1970s Rolling Stones sound than Hank Williams but who is to say that is necessarily a bad thing. After all hasn’t the music of Mick, Keith and Ronnie stood the test of time better than a host of rock‘n’roll acts too many to mention. Another legend who plays a part in the music of the Tampa Bay, Florida… Continue

Easy paced, laid back philosophical fare written by a man who has throughout his career been out on his own. I vividly remember the thrill of placing his 1975 debut album, Old No 1 on the turntable and marvelling at his songs.… Continue

JERRY REED —WHERN YOU’RE HOT....THE VERY BEST OF 1967-1983 (Raven) When it comes to great guitarists, the late Jerry Reed is right up there at the top of the list. ERIC BOGLE — LIVE AT STONYFELL WINERY (Greentrax) DVD

http://ericbogle.net/

Scottish-born, Australian resident Eric Bogle has long been a standard bearer among singer-songwriters when it came to writing material that speak for the people and pick up on good causes, and every now and hit the nail firmly on the head of the glaring failings of mankind. An extremely witty and shrewd observer, Bogle now at the retiring age of the normal street worker, and past that of some his… Continue

When it comes creating a groove and crafting out new exciting sounds, Kieran Kane is a master few even of his peers are able to match when he takes up the challenge.

After a lifetime playing mandolin, and it being the driving force behind his work he has for the last three or four years taken to using the banjo in a like-minded style. Aided by the remarkable… Continue

JEFF & VIDA —SELMA CHALK (Rosebank Records)

Oh, how I love the bluegrass/ country sound of Jeff & Vida. With fine instrumental support given to the distinctive vocals of the multi-talented, Vida Wakeman and her partner Jeff Burke who plays mandolin and lends fine harmony vocal support (and sings some lead).

While she possesses a likeness to Rounder recording act Claire Lynch on the bluegrass cuts her approach to country music is… Continue
