ROD STEWART —THE ROD STEWART SESSIONS 1971-1998 (Stiefel Entertainment -Warner Bros)

Scottish rocker Rod Stewart found there was life after the Faces, the band he fronted before and after he started out as a solo act. A born entertainer, songwriter and as has been underlined over the years a gifted producer. As demonstrated on among others his best selling album Every Picture Tells A Story.

A big fan of Bob Dylan his version of his ‘Girl From The North Country’ enjoys a good run out as Sessions… Continue

THE O’S –WE ARE THE O’s (Idol Records)

THE O’S –WE ARE THE O’s (Idol Records)

Understated and a little off-kilter Taylor Young and John Pedigo play a list of instruments between them as The O’s utilise traditional folk country in a good honest fashion.

On first listen their music for me doesn’t pull up any trees maybe it was because I feel I had heard it all before. As the likes of the Bad Livers and other string-based units Highwood… Continue

John Fogerty

The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again

John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Rival Fame and a recording act in his own right (his solo debut in 1973 was recorded under the guise as The Blue Ridge Ranger where he played all the instruments) is one of the few people who could get away with making an album like this and also make it work. Since many songs on this… Continue

THE MOJO GURUS —LET’S GET LIT WITH...(Linus Entertainment)

THE MOJO GURUS —LET’S GET LIT WITH...(Linus Entertainment)

Hard rocking fare that owes more to the 1970s Rolling Stones sound than Hank Williams but who is to say that is necessarily a bad thing. After all hasn’t the music of Mick, Keith and Ronnie stood the test of time better than a host of rock‘n’roll acts too many to mention. Another legend who plays a part in the music of the Tampa Bay, Florida… Continue

Speed Of Life is the first album in five years by one of the oldest true blue Americana bands around, yes they may have started out in the mid-1960s but boy their music still sounds fresh and sharp and true to the roots of the music.

Featuring band members Jeff Hanna (acoustic guitar, electric, resonator,… Continue

After last year’s DVD/CD release of the self-titled The Band Of Heathens it was always going to be interesting to see if they could live up to the promise, and immediately I pressed play One Foot In Ether blew my fears out of the… Continue

Few, if any artist during the last twenty years has been as consistent in the singer-songwriter field as Tom Russell. As a result he has had the likes of Johnny Cash, Dave Alvin, Guy Clark, Ian Tyson. Iris DeMent, Joe Ely, k. d Lang, Dave Van Ronk, Gretchen Peters and Nanci Griffith cover his songs; plus Tom has yet to make a bad… Continue
