Quite a treat this. Not only do we have another album by incredible multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and sideman Darrell Scott but it comes in a relatively short time since he had a record out. Scott instantly announces his intentions as he lets rip with the wordy,…

CHARLIE HAGER —AMERICAN SAGA (Flour Sack Cape Records)

http://fscrecords.com

Singer-songwriter Charlie Hager is a new name to me, but immediately I placed American Sage into the slot I was drawn to his simple, straight as an arrow, sharp as a knife style of music (and lived-in vocals). It certainly helped that his opening cut was the Cajun warmed tune…

MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER —THE THINGS THAT WE ARE MADE OF (Lambent Light Records – Thirty Tigers)

http://marychapincarpenter.com

The listener can’t help but be taken by the easy rolling vocals and flow of Mary Chapin Carpenter’s music, it is hard to comprehend the fact The Things That Are Made Of is her umpteenth album, and that she still has the hunger to equal if…

CARTER SAMPSON —WILDER SIDE (Continental Song City)

www.cartersimpson.net

Boy, oh boy this is good (and country too!) Oklahoma’s Carter Sampson before this record (her fifth album) was completely unknown to me, but ever since the first time I heard her I have hungered for more. Who and what era, area her music hails is a mixture. The greatest…

JOHNNY RODRIGUEZ —MY THIRD ALBUM / SONGS ABOUT LADIES AND LOVE (Hux Records)

http://www.huxrecords.com

JOHN MORELAND —HIGH ON TULSA HEAT (Old Omens/ Thirty Tigers)

One of many aspects associated with reviewing albums is the irregular quality. You may pick up three or four in a row and find them a difficult for one reason or another.
