Service provider upgrades...

posting this from a friends computer after my service upgrade crashed. Might not be anything from me for a bit till the boffins get me sorted out. Just read Maurice's review of Levon Helm at The Ryman and I would just add that I gave that album a listen last night, and if that's not musical heaven, I don't know what is.

See y'all soon

Peter Bruntnell: Black Mountain UFO

www.peterbruntnell.net

Peter Bruntnell is one of those musicians I keep hearing great things about but hadn't actually heard any of his music until this new album appeared. I wasn't sure what to expect, but sure as eggs is eggs, it wasn't this beautiful resurrection of very English…

Adriana Spina: Never Coming Home

  http://www.adrianaspina.com/

http://flyinshoes.ning.com/profile/Adriana

Always good to welcome a new voice on the Scottish music scene; after several years of playing her music on various stages,  Adriana Spina is on the point of releasing this, her debut album of  self-penned songs.  A…

Genticorum: Nagez Rameurs

 www.genticorum.com

The easiest flowing folk music I've heard in some while comes from this Quebecois trio.  Genticorum have three previous albums to their name and have clearly established a wide renown for their recorded music and for their performances. Led by fiddler and foot-stomper Pascal Gemme, the three of them…

Ian McFeron: Summer Nights

www.ianmcferon.com

Sometimes it's hard to believe how many really talented people are out there under the radar. This is Seattle-based Ian McFeron's sixth album in the last eight years, and it's a really strong piece of work. Recorded in Nashville with producer/guitarist Doug Lancio, thirteen…

Des Horsfall's Kuschty Rye: The Good Gentleman's Tonic

 www.kuschtyrye.net

Kuschty Rye: Des Horsfall claims it means A Good Gentleman but he's lifted it from Ronnie Lane and I can't find any corroboration on that. Maybe Ronnie invented it, and if he did then that's just fine. This album is Des's tribute to Slim Chance era Ronnie Lane and he's gone overboard on the whole…

Marybeth D'Amico: The Light Inside

www.marybethdamico.com

After considerable success with her first album, Marybeth D'Amico has returned to Austin-based producer Bradley Kopp for this highly impressive new album.  Essentially a singer-songwriter armed with an acoustic guitar, Marybeth demonstrates what can be achieved if…

Suzette and the Neon Angels: Tex-o-Billy

www.suzetteandtheneonangels.com

Here's a classic case of it does what it says on the tin. High octane Texan flavoured rockabilly from Suzette Lawrence and her band is what you get here. She's actually based in Nashville these days but a long career in music that…

Gerry Jablonski and The Electric Band: Life at Captain Tom's

www.myspace.com/thegerryjablonski

Captain Tom's is the Aberdeen recording studio and home of Fat Hippy Records, from where this fine slice of blues rock has emerged; Gerry Jablonski is the…

The O's : Between The Two

www.facebook.com/wearetheos

Sounding like the neat splicing of two one-man bands, The O's are Texan duo Taylor Young and John Pedigo. With a sound built around an ability to play as many roots country instruments as possible, simultaneously, these guys have the characteristic energy and busy-ness of the…

Gregory Alan Isakov: This Empty Northern Hemisphere

www.gregoryalanisakov.com

Originally released in 2009, this album is being re-issued to coincide with Gregory's short tour of Europe, coming up soon. Writing and performing in a mode that might be loosely called modern singer-songwriter, Gregory writes  beautifully constructed…

The Lorelei: Faces

www.thelorelei.co.uk

We're well into the second coming of Aberdeen's Lorelei now and, like other acts of similar vintage that fuse electric folk with punkish energy, they continue to blaze into the night with furious commitment. All beards and kilts (apart from Diane, the viola player,…
