The John Langan Band: Bones Of Contention

You won’t have heard anything quite like Glasgow’s John Langan Band, a folk trio who lift off from a traditional base, and then soar high with an extraordinary melange of folk music that takes in some east European sounds, a jazz sensibility and some scabrously real, contemporary…

Italy's foremost roots-rock and Americana band Mandolin' Brothers have been going since 1979, played hundreds of gigs in their homeland and across Europe and made their last album in Austin, Texas with help from a number of the Live Music Capital's luminaries, including steel whizz Cindy Cashdollar, cody Braun from Reckless Kelly and Merel Bregante from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (among others).

Now's the time for their next album and, like many others, they're inviting…

King King: Standing in the Shadows

If you’re into British blues at all, this is probably the album you’ve been most looking forward to for a while. If you’re not familiar with the scene, then take this as your way in; start at the top, why don’t you? King King won Album of the Year at last year’s national awards with their debut effort, and I would say this album tops that one. As with a…

Matt Woosey Band: On The waggon

Bristol bloke Matt Woosey has, by his own account, been pushing his music hard since he was a teenager, in an attempt to avoid being pinned down in a workaday life. Well, he’s had to do the day jobs, too, to keep body and soul together, but maybe not for much longer.  This current…

Devon Allman -- Turquoise (Ruf Records).

Deep Dark Woods In Europe 2013

The Deep Dark Woods wake the ghosts of Appalachia with their prairie gothic pyre-side tales. On their new album, "The Place I Left Behind", the band finds continuity in themes of temporal and geographic alienation, neglected inward trails, and the scars of abandoned intimacies. More…
