Farewell to the man who invented Bluegrass Banjo, Earl Scruggs dies age 88

Earl Eugene Scruggs (January 6, 1924 – March 28, 2012)

Before Earl Banjo was an instrument that accompanied a song, that maybe added flavour and texture but was always homespun, downhome and played mainly for home entertainment and community sessions, then Earle Scruggs  perfected the three finger style technique, which at a stroke made the banjo a lead instrument and loud enough to be heard beyond rhythm and fit for  dances, his old…

You should check out that Music City Roots show, Rob. Really good. I think that I'm going to be on it before too long. As for Eddie, we've met several times but we're not chums or anything. I do love his radio voice and his knowledge of Country Music though. He, Hazel Smith and Bob Oermann probably know more than anyone in Nashville. about the history of Country records and artists. They have some great stories, especially Hazel. Anyway, glad you like the spot. I'll be sending you a post from the Belfast thing as well. Cheers-Jefferson

Enjoyed your piece on Katy Moffatt. Been a fan of hers for many a year but have never seen her live. She tours more frequently across the ocean than in the states, but that seems to always be the case. Less appreciation in the states for home-grown american music than pretty much anywhere in the world. Lucky me!
