Grant Peeples: Prior Convictions

www.grantpeeples.comHaving abandoned music making for a decade or so, Florida native Grant Peeples has been back with a bit of a bang in the last few years with this new one being the fourth album in the last five years. He’s quite an old style left wing protest singer and if you asked him what he was protesting against, he would answer, as per “Johnny” in The Wild One,…See More

Screen Door Porch: The Fate & The Fruit

www.screendoorporch.com

"Roots Rock” seems to be the tag this Wyoming based band attracts, but from the first notes of The Fate &The Fruit I feel we’re in alt-country/country noir territory and the kind of sounds that seemed to emerge around the turn of the century. A dark rhythmic pulse has a sparse banjo line riding over it with a…

Hatful of Rain: Way Up On The Hill

www.hatfulofrain.co.uk

Here’s more hugely enjoyable Appalachian inspired music from the deep south of England; Hatful of Rain add a little English folk feel to the ten original songs that appear on this debut cd and that, of course, is all to the good when you’re making music that springs from a shared tradition. The band comprises Chloe Overton…

Lisa Biales is a new name to me, but this Ohio native has been around on the music scene for a while, with several self-released albums to her name.
