Spike Flynn tribute - Doc lays down his guitar

It was with great sadness that I heard the news that Doc Watson had died a couple of days ago. He has been a tremendous influence on me and an inspiration both in his music and in his life. He has been a part of my life for over 40 years I realise when thinking back. I read about him in about 1969 or 70 I suppose but living in a small town in the Central…

Gulgong Opera House - Spike Flynn performance.

This is a song from my performance at the Gulgong Folk Festival January 2012. Gulgong is a terrific little town whose glory days are long gone. The festival was a great success and a load of fun

The Prince of Wales Opera House began as a music hall, built from bush timber and bark, in the early 1870s.

The…

Time is a Jet Plane report from Spike Flynn

Wow, where does the time go? It's ages since I've touched base with Flyin Shoes. Rob is doing a great job of keeping everything going and I guess sometimes I take this resource (and others like it) a bit for granted. Shame on me! So I've decided to put a dollar or two up for some advertising, upload a…

Spike Flynn takes us to The Doc

A while back I put up a post and video relating to Jimmie Rodgers, the singing brakeman. He has been a great inspiration and at times solace in my life.  Another person who has played that role is Doc Watson.…

Love your latest song here "The Great Divide", even if it is an out take from your first CD. You must have mountains of songs that have yet to see the light of day...

Reading your reviews here and elsewhere, the general consensus about you is that having made your first CD in your mid-fifties your songs are "world weary" and you're not in "any hurry" to tell your stories... to me that's what makes you so good, and don't mind any begrudgers! Keep writing and singing.
