Hi; I'm first and foremost a music fan who loves going to gigs and concerts and discovering new talent. My taste is spectacularly eclectic although I passionately dislike Opera and Jazz!
I first started reviewing in 1997 when I saw a band called The Cosmic Rough Riders in a basement bar in Glasgow. I thought they were 'the future' and felt the need to tell the world. They weren't but my words and opinion got printed in a proper magazine. I was subsequently asked to become a staff writer and have gone on to produce work for a variety of publications in the UK and the Colonies.
Although my wife thinks I'm a Music Snob; because I have such strong opinions, I actually try to find something good in everything I review, even if it's not a genre I'm really comfortable with.
My first love is the Blues in all its' guises but I have regular dalliances with Country, Americana and good quality singer-songwriter too.
99% of my reviews are written from the heart without the aid or influence of the Press Release that accompanies a disc - I'm still a fan at heart.
